Years in Business

After selling to Home Depot in 2006, Linton and his family continued to operate Cox Lumber Ltd. in Grand Cayman. In early 2009, Linton, Juan Quesada (former Cox Lumber Co. president and then-current Cox Lumber Ltd. president) and Kyle discussed their mutual desire to re-enter the business. Soon thereafter they began drafting a business plan and pitched the concept to other members of Linton’s family. Tibbetts Lumber Co. was formed and officially opened its doors in July 2009 in St. Petersburg, one block from the former corporate headquarters. Linton and his son-in-law, Russ Brandes, co-chaired the founding Board of Directors until Linton’s passing in 2011 when Russ became Chairman of the Board.

In 2010, Tibbetts Lumber acquired Cox’s previous 8.5-acre facility in Land O’Lakes and in 2011 purchased a small location in Lehigh Acres (Ft. Myers). Tibbetts has since expanded that location three times. In August 2011, Tibbetts acquired Cox’s former 6-acre facility in Palm Bay, just 2 months prior to Linton’s passing. In 2014, Tibbetts Lumber regained possession of its former 8.5-acre Ocala facility and in June 2019, the company purchased its old Cox facility in Crystal River and opened it as its sixth yard. In 2021 Tibbetts acquired Florida Forest Products Truss in Largo growing the Tibbett’s locations to seven. Tibbetts has since purchased three additional locations in Englewood, Lecanto, Pensacola, and Milton for further growth into Florida’s panhandle, Alabama, and Mississippi; finally propelling the company over the state line.

In December 2014, Juan Quesada officially retired from the companies after 35 years of service and Russ Hallenbeck, a 37-year veteran with the company, took the reins as CEO. In February 2015, Kyle, a 20-year veteran with the company, was named Executive Chairman when Russ Brandes decided to retire after 38 years of service to the companies.

Tibbetts Lumber continues to grow and set its vision to be recognized by customers, employees, and vendors as the preferred independent truss and building materials supply partner in the Southeastern United States.

Tibbetts Lumber’s mission is uniquely simple, powerful, and intentional – To glorify God and honor the legacy of Linton and Polly Tibbetts while growing knowledgeable, dedicated employees while serving our customers with excellence and integrity.

BUILDING ON THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

Linton’s Core Principles

The Tibbetts Family strives to continue to grow Tibbetts Lumber Co. as a multi-generational family business spanning four generations and the vision to make it to the fifth. Linton and Polly’s photo is featured prominently in every Tibbetts Lumber and Cox Lumber Ltd. location to ensure every employee remembers this special founding couple and adheres to Linton’s core principles, which are fondly displayed around each facility:

My practice is to employ the best people that I can, make them feel a part of the company and we will be successful

Hard work, attention to good business principles and personal sacrifice plus determination and good follow-through are all essential

Every customer that walks through the door is a prince or a princess because he or she is the one that put you where you are, too many people forget that when they get to the top.

Set goals every year and encourage every employee to meet them

You don’t need a fancy office or a brand-new truck or equipment to get started

Plan instead of worry

The worst thing you can do is promise what you cannot deliver

Credit is the root of all evil in any business, be tough about giving it and always pay your bills on time

Life is somewhat like an electric car in a carnival, you get bumped on this side and you get bumped on that side but you don’t stop, you keep going, determined to keep moving until your time is up
